Event Description
This three-day teacher workshop is designed to familiarize attendees with the VEX robotic modeling system, various competitive robotic events (including the TSA/VEX
Robotics "Swept Away" and the new VRC game "Round Up"), and techniques to use them as tools to facilitate integration of content areas such as science, technology, engineering, and math.
Join us for the most anticipated teacher workshop of the year. Since our first summer workshop in the early 1990's, Applied Technologies has sought to expand participants' teaching methods beyond traditional boundaries. In our workshops, the teacher becomes the student. Through problem-based educational experiences, workshop participants learn how to better prepare students for the real world, and have quite a lot of fun in the process. Furthermore, participants learn first-hand how various academic competencies can be taught, mastered, and retained through concrete application. In our workshops, common sense prevails.
Over the course of three days, each participant will utilize our new Engineering Application Series(EAS) challenge template to build and program a Vex robot. Math and physical science competencies as well as engineering concepts will be addressed as the teachers work in teams to modify their robots for a set of competitive events to be held on the final day of the workshop. All participants will receive a complimentary one-year subscription to the Engineering Application Series website, a $500.00 value.
Sessions will also cover organizing and hosting competitive robotic events such as the popular Vex Robotics games. Teachers interested in competing in the TSA/Vex Robotics signature event "Swept Away" and "Roundup" will be given a head-start on the competition by learning game winning strategies from VEX factory experts.
Eligible participants will receive 18 hours of staff development training for attendance.
