In association with VEX Robotics, Sultana High School has been given the opportunity to create a VEX Robotics League. League play is a new concept to the VEX Robotics competition . The league play concept is going to allow areas with a high concentrations of VEX Robotics teams to easily manage the growing number of robotic teams and allowing all levels of teams a chance to participate. The High Desert League will have up to 40 teams competing in five league matches and taking the scores from four of those five matches to determine the league champion and participate in the league finals.

The league match sessions are structured to allow teams to earn points at 3 of 4 league matches. Teams will earn points by participating in league matches and the calculation of each teams WPs and SPs points. (Win Points and Strength of Schedule points) This gives teams the flexibility to schedule around potential conflicts.

League play finals will be 2 team alliances, not the traditional three. Alliance selection will be done based off the final league standings, where teams will have their best 3 match scores calculated. Teams failing to compete in 50% league matches will not have the opportunity to discard any match scores.

The league will be guaranteed to qualify at least two of its top teams for the World Championship (the two team winning alliance at the League Tournament to conclude the season).

In addition, the Excellence Award will go to the league’s # 1 ranked team. In cases where the # 1 ranked team is not on the winning alliance, all three of these teams will be invited to the VRC World Championship and other post-season invitational events including the US National Championship.
