Event Description
The 14th WOC Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Conference invites robotics teams to the 2009 WOC VEX Clean Sweep Invitational. Enroll and watch as the brightest, young minds push their robots to accomplish the mission of this year’s VEX challenge, Clean Sweep.
The event is also the perfect opportunity for families to attend an exciting, fun, and free educational event that will engage and inspire kids. The competition motivates impressionable young minds to enhance their skills in the critical STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and math) through the construction, development, programming, and operation of VEX robots.
The 2009 WOC VEX Clean Sweep Invitational is only one of many activities taking place October 29-31, 2009, at the Hilton Anatole as part of the 14th Women of Color STEM Conference, www.womenofcolor.net. For more than 13 years, this multi-cultural event for men and women has been the conference of choice for the recognition of the significant accomplishments of minority women in the digital world, and it attracts talented people who serve in innovative, professional, and technical positions.
A high-level meeting of minority women in information technology, computer science, information science, bioinformatics and digital arts; the National Women of Color Technology Awards conference (NWOC) is the place to connect with the key issues in corporate diversity, the critical shortage of women in IT careers, technological innovation, and women-owned IT ventures.
The Conference, with its widely praised awards, supports and recognizes minority women in technology careers. It connects them with mentors and employers capable of jump-starting—or restarting--their careers. College students also attend, to meet the winners and to learn how to take the next critical steps to forging careers of their own.

Arrival
Since your team will be arriving before the convention floor officially opens, it is imperative that you follow the arrival traffic pattern listed below.
Once you arrive at the Hilton Anatole, proceed to Wycliff and make a left. Travel about 50 feet and you will see the Trinity parking lot on your left. Free parking has been arranged for the robotics teams in this lot only. This parking lot is also closest to the door that teams must use to enter the building.
All teams must enter the convention hall through the back service door. There will be signage and a security guard stationed at the door to provide direction. The guard will be posted at this door starting at 7:30 AM. Teams will be led to the Trinity Hall II foyer where registration will take place.
After teams have registered, we will run a few safety checks and trial competitions prior to the start of the competition. If we are able to register everyone in a timely fashion, we may begin the first two competition rounds prior to the opening ceremony, which will begin at 10:00 AM.
**Please note that we would like to register all teams promptly at 8:15 AM and we ask that you plan your travel so that your team arrives no later than 8:15 AM.
Meals
Due to our agreement with the competition site, teams will not be able to bring outside food onto the Hilton Anatole property. Career Communications Group will provide a $12 lunch voucher to each robotics team member. I ask that coaches send me an email (mroberts@ccgmag.com) with the number of team members including chaperones so I can order the lunch vouchers. Also, please forward a list of the competitors' names so that I can prepare badges. Competitors are encouraged to bring a little spending money for additional snacks.
Competition Streaming on the Internet
Every effort will be made to stream the competition live here.
Come Prepared for a Great Day of Competition
This year's VEX challenge, Clean Sweep, is causing quite a stir. The most exciting and complicated challenge yet, Clean Sweep has all the competitors brainstorming about the best strategies and uses of the game's many pieces. Check out all the conversation on the official VEX Forum.
Student Ambassadors Needed 11 AM - 1 PM
During the course of the competition, there will be several VIP spectators and in order to ensure that they experience the full flavor of the competition, I would like select VIPs to take a brief tour with a robotics competitor. I am asking each team to provide one student who could work a 20 minute shift to give 2 or 3 tours. These shifts would be determined on competition day so that we can ensure the student is not away from his/her team during a crucial time. The student should take this opportunity to explain the game, tour the team pits, talk about their experience with VEX and market their team. A brief information packet will be prepared for the student.
